Clay, the essential element for the skin
Used and recognized for centuries
Clay has been known for millennia for its healing power. Since ancient times, it has been used in natural medicine for its exceptional sanitizing properties thanks to its absorbent power. Thus, as a poultice, it evacuates toxins, bad bacteria and allows the skin to repair itself.
Obtained from rocks rich in mineral salts and trace elements, such as iron, zinc, silicon, magnesium, potassium, calcium it has anti-inflammatory, healing, softening and remineralizing properties…
Clay has many benefits
Clay thanks to its properties is therefore you will understand, an excellent care for the skin. It lightens the complexion, refines the skin texture, regenerates and repairs damaged skin. In mask and scrub, it evacuates toxins, traces of pollution and dead cells.
Depending on your skin and its needs
There are several types of clay to use depending on its skin type.
Red clay , rich in iron oxide, is ideal for brightening the complexion of tired and stressed skin. Very absorbent, it mattifies and soothes reactive skin and prone to redness.
Green clay, the most absorbent, is the ally of oily and combination skin. Thus, it absorbs and regulates sebum. Its purifying properties tame shine, tightens enlarged pores, reduces the number of blackheads, dries out pimples and helps skin heal.
White clay, rich in silica, is the clay of dry and sensitive skin. Remineralizing, it brightens the complexion and cleanses the skin gently.
Yellow clay, rich in minerals, is stimulating and invigorating. It is recommended for preparing masks for sensitive and mature skin.
Mask or scrub, how to do?
Quality clay
The quality of the clay is important. The clay must be superfine. It can be bought in organic stores. We recommend the French brand Agiletz whose origin is traceable.
Some precautions:
CAUTION some precautions to take:
- Never use bowls or utensils made of oxidizable metal or plastic that would cause it to lose its properties.
- Never reuse previously used clay.
- Do not allow your mask to dry on your face.
In mask
Place two large tablespoons of the powdered clay of your choice in a bowl.
Add:
- a spoon of hydrosol (rose, witch hazel, orange blossom,…)
- a drop of essential oil (tea tree, geranium, helichrysum)
- a few drops of a virgin and non-comedogenic vegetable oil (hazelnut or jojoba, apricot kernel).
Mix until a creamy paste is obtained.
Spread in a thick layer on the face.
Leave on for 15 minutes.
When the mask dries, moisten it with a spray of floral water.
Remove and rinse the mask thoroughly in hot water with a sponge or glove.
Dry your skin thoroughly and moisturize.
Scrubbing.
For scrubbing, white clay (kaolin) is ideal. It is thin and poorly absorbent and its exfoliating power is gentle on sensitive skin.
Make the same recipe as for the mask but more liquid.
Apply to the face and massage for a few minutes, emphasizing the nose, chin and forehead.
This scrub is also very effective for the body.
Our tips:
- If you are in a hurry use ready-made paste. You can add your ingredients.
- You can replace the oil with Aloe Vera for dehydrated skin or whole yogurt or honey for dry skin.
- For body scrub, you can add a little coffee grounds.
